Airborne Odorant Delivery System

Capstone Project

Capstone Project

The Airborne Odorant Delivery System was my capstone project developed with three others during my senior year of college.

This system is a part of a greater testing apparatus for electronic nose development. The Airborne Odorant Delivery system is an automated system that delivers odorants to the electronic nose during testing. This system is capable of delivering up to five different odors in known quantities and in known mixtures. The AODS system turns liquid odorants into gases and mixes them all to dispense at the same time.

Here is a SolidWorks flow simulation showing how the partitions cause the different odors to fold in on themselves. This folding process forces the odors to mix when going into the nest compartment. Ultimately each of the odors gets fully dispersed when going through the outlet hole.

This is our custom mixing chamber developed by our team and designed in SolidWorks. We designed this mixing chamber to have five inlets and one outlet. The chamber is comprised of four smaller compartments divided by partitions with alternating holds for maximum mixing.
